It has opened three new centres, including the one in Adra, which now has a daily auction and whose packing warehouse will start up in October; and it has increased the storage area in its auction in La Redonda by 30%.
The fruit and vegetable season in the Agroponiente Group is going to mean a new and notable increase in production volume. The forecasts for the season are clear evidence of this and so the company has prepared to increase its operational capacity in the same way, increasing both the number of facilities and the storage surface area in some of them.
As is well known, three new centres have been opened, one in Cuevas del Almanzora, which will cover the Levante area, which the company had traditionally covered and which had been without a centre in recent years; another in La Michelín, which joins the one in Ruescas to reinforce the whole area on the border between the municipalities of Almería and Níjar; and one more in Adra, which happens to be the big project for this season and which already has its auction in operation, which has brought the number of daily auctions in the province to five (La Redonda and Guardias Viejas in El Ejido, Vegacañada, Campohermoso in Níjar and Adra) and in October it will start operations in its packing warehouse, creating around 300 jobs and an initial forecast of around 40 million kilos in this first season.
In addition, during the summer, work was carried out to refurbish some of the existing work centres to provide them with greater operational functionality and storage capacity. The most singular case is that of the central facilities in the La Redonda industrial estate which, in addition to undergoing work to improve and modernise its reception area, has reorganised the space of its auction warehouse, managing to increase its capacity by 30% thanks to the reorganisation and relocation of some storage spaces to other areas of the facilities.
In this way, the Agroponiente Group’s auction room in La Redonda will be ready to receive the considerable increase in the volume of product that is expected for this new 2024/2025 campaign and which is expected to begin to register daily full loads from a few weeks from now, which will be essential to meet the potential demand that already exists on the part of the company’s customers.
It is also important to note that the auction activity has started the season growing by over 30%, thanks, among other things, to the incorporation of the Adra auction, the aforementioned increase in the La Redonda auction, the maintenance of the Guardias Viejas auction which plays a fundamental role in the structure and the notable start-up of the Nijar auction, which has experienced a significant increase in the number of growers.
Its CEO, Imanol Almudí, confirms that ‘all these changes are the result of the company’s evolution over the last two years, with overall annual growth of 7% and 13% in each of the last two seasons, with forecasts for growth of between 15 and 20% in this one that is now beginning, but also of the forecasting work that our technicians have done in the field and that our sales team has carried out among our clients. The company is going to record a third year of outstanding growth and we needed to increase our logistical resources to be able to sell the produce of our growers, who are really getting behind us, and to respond to the demands of our national and international clients’.
