Grupo Agroponiente received the Environmental Commitment Award this Thursday during the XII Almerían Agriculture Awards ceremony, organized by the newspaper La Voz de Almería, Cadena SER, and Agricultura 2000. The event took place at the El Ejido Theatre and was attended by various representatives of the institutional, political, economic, and business sectors of the province, led by the General Director of the organizing group CM 2000, Ricardo Céspedes, and the Mayor of El Ejido, Francisco Góngora.
This consolidated event serves as the closing ceremony of the horticultural campaign from a media standpoint, bringing together the leading stakeholders of the sector. Alongside Grupo Agroponiente, other awarded entities included Agrupapulpí, the Alpujarra Agroecological Project, Induser, and the Smali Operational Group.
The award was presented to Grupo Agroponiente’s Head of Institutional Relations by Antonio Mena, Delegate for Agriculture of the Andalusian Government in Almería. Immediately afterward, Mr. Fresneda held a brief on-stage conversation with Jacinto Castillo, Agriculture correspondent for La Voz and SER, where they discussed the award and the current state of the sector.
José Miguel Fresneda stated, “For a company like ours, it’s not only crucial to take action but also to ensure that these actions have impact — that they generate value for our environment. And often, the best testimony of that value comes from the media. For us, it is extremely important — likely more than it seems — that a media outlet like La Voz de Almería recognizes our work, especially in areas that are also very important to us: social, environmental, and human commitment. On behalf of the company and our CEO, Imanol Almudí — who would have loved to be here today but was unable to due to professional obligations — thank you very much.”
He also emphasized, “We work in a highly dynamic sector, absolutely essential to our economic and social growth. And within this sector, at Agroponiente we are convinced of the importance of both our human and social commitment, as well as the need to grow as a company to compete as a strong player in the market. We are actively working on both fronts and are proud to say that, since the end of last year, we are among the few companies in the sector certified as a B Corp.”
