Grupo Agroponiente plans a spring of significant growth in its production volumes, including melon and watermelon.

Approximately 60 million kilos of watermelon and almost ten million kilos of melon are forecast, with increases also in other products, especially aubergine and courgette.

The Agroponiente Group is already working on the general planning of the 2025 Spring Campaign, both for its products in general and for the seasonal products, melon and watermelon, in particular. As usual every year, the company’s technicians and field managers have carried out an exhaustive planning and evaluation of crops and plantations in order to perfectly structure everything that is going to be the logistical and commercial work when the time comes.

In general, the forecasts point to a fairly balanced sowing, with sustainable and gradual growth and with a special increase in volumes in street crops and in Fashion Watermelon, although, in general, production and marketing figures will increase in all specialities.

As far as specialised seasonal crops are concerned, a general growth is expected in all varieties. In global figures, an approximate volume of around 60 million kilos of watermelon and around ten million kilos of melon is expected. In terms of planted area, melon is expected to increase from around 2,900 hectares to more than 3,200 hectares and melon from 1,100 to 1,300 hectares.

The number of hectares planted in products such as aubergines and especially courgettes will also increase significantly, while the number of hectares planted in peppers will decrease with respect to the 2023/2024 season.

All these figures are the result, as they are every year, of meticulous campaign planning work, which the professionals from the Agroponiente Group regularly carry out together with the growers, which significantly facilitates logistical forecasts and the relationship with commercial operators, when it comes to closing both programmes and all kinds of relationships.

According to Bernardo Villegas, ‘these plans are very useful for everyone when it comes to developing the season and, in this case, they once again reflect, as has been the case in recent years, the increase in surface area, growers and volume of production in which the company is immersed. We are really growing at levels we have never known before and we have to thank, of course, the confidence of our growers and, obviously, the loyalty of our clients’.
