The event was attended by the President of the Provincial Council, Javier Aureliano García, and the CEO of the company, Imanol Almudí, reaffirming its responsible business model with a positive impact on society and the environment.
The company Agroponiente Group has presented, this morning and in the Gourmet Space ‘Sabores Almería’ of the Diputación de Almería, the B-Corp recognition, which it obtained at the end of last year, joining the 9,400 companies that have it worldwide and the only 200 that have it in Spain.
The event was led by the CEO of the Agroponiente Group, Imanol Almudí, the president of the Provincial Council, Javier Aureliano García Molina; and the company’s Marketing Manager, Andrea Alonso; with the presence of the deputy of Sabores Almería, Carlos Sánchez; the delegate of Agriculture of the Andalusian Regional Government, Antonio Mena; the mayors of Adra and Berja, Manuel Cortés and José Carlos Lupión; and councillors from the town councils of Almería, El Ejido and Níjar.
Almudí proudly announced that the company has achieved the prestigious B-CORP certification, an international recognition that highlights companies for their commitment to social, environmental and economic well-being.
For his part, the President of the Provincial Council of Almeria underlined the positive impact that companies such as Agroponiente have on the province and on the global agri-food sector: ‘this is a company that is doing exceptional work, which has placed it among the best in Spain, with spectacular growth figures, which has led it to this B-Corp recognition that only 9 companies in the world and 200 in Spain have. 400 in the world and 200 in Spain, employing thousands of people, harvesting the work of thousands of farmers and also with an impressive environmental policy, which has led it to reduce its consumption figures in every way and its carbon footprint’.
Imanol Almudí, CEO of Agroponiente, stressed that this achievement is the result of a transformational process in the company, which began several years ago and which has meant a radical change both in the way Agroponiente operates and in its organisational culture.
‘When I arrived at Agroponiente three years ago, I saw a company with tremendous potential, but with difficulties. Today, not only have we managed to turn the company around, but we have also reached an important milestone by achieving B-CORP certification, which highlights our social responsibility, sustainability and business transparency’, said Almudí.
Obtaining B-CORP certification places Agroponiente in the select group of global companies that not only seek economic profitability, but also generate a positive impact on society and the environment. Agroponiente is now part of the 9,400 companies in the world that comply with the strict standards demanded by B Corp.
The B-CORP certification is awarded by B Lab, a global organisation that evaluates business practices in five key areas: Governance, Employees, Community, Environment and Customers. This recognition is awarded only to those companies that pass an exhaustive evaluation process, in which they must demonstrate their positive impact and commitment to social and environmental principles.
‘Being a B-CORP is a reflection of our belief that companies should have a purpose beyond financial profit. We are committed to sustainable business management, which is not only measured in financial terms, but also in how we positively influence our environment and our community,’ explained Andrea Alonso Fernández, head of marketing and sustainability at Agroponiente.
Agroponiente has taken another step forward in its transformation and expansion process, with a strong commitment to sustainability. Under the management of Imanol Almudí, the company has shown that high quality agriculture can be compatible with social and environmental responsibility. Agroponiente is a benchmark in the agri-food industry, working with more than 4,000 farmers and with a business model that advocates economic, social and environmental sustainability.
‘Our objective is to continue growing, but in a responsible way. Not only in terms of volume, but also in the way we impact the environment. Through our B-CORP certification, we want to be a benchmark for other companies and promote a more inclusive and sustainable business model’, Almudí pointed out.
With this certification, Agroponiente demonstrates that sustainability is not just a commitment, but a comprehensive strategy that encompasses all areas of its activity, from production to distribution, and involves all actors in its value chain, including the farmers it works with.
Agroponiente’s ambition is not limited to this achievement. The company’s CEO, Imanol Almudí, made it clear that the company will continue to work towards a more sustainable future, expanding its positive impact and consolidating its leadership in the agri-food sector.
‘We want Agroponiente to be one of the most influential companies in the agri-food sector not only in Spain, but also in Europe. We want to place Almeria and Andalusia as the centre of gravity of the European agri-food sector, and our B-CORP certification is just the beginning of this journey,’ concluded Almudí.
In addition to its achievements in environmental sustainability, Agroponiente has demonstrated a strong commitment to the community, supporting social projects and working to integrate groups at risk of exclusion. The company is also involved in developing innovative solutions to improve agricultural productivity, working with advanced technology such as precision agriculture and promoting the circular economy.
In the words of Andrea Alonso, ‘For us, being B-CORP is not just about obtaining a certification, it is a business model that integrates sustainability in each of our processes, and this is reflected in our relationship with farmers, customers and suppliers’.
With this important recognition, Agroponiente reaffirms its commitment to excellence, sustainability and social responsibility, consolidating itself as a business model to follow in Spain and abroad.
