Grupo Agroponiente Attends Rijk Zwaan’s Cucumber Congress to Stay Updated on Product Innovation

The R&D department continues to attend various forums that offer solutions to viruses and diseases, and introduce resistant varieties.

The technical and R&D team of Grupo Agroponiente recently participated in the Cucumber Congress organized by the multinational seed company Rijk Zwaan at the Teatro Municipal in El Ejido. The event provided extensive and in-depth information about the upcoming horticultural campaign.

This attendance aligns with the company’s and its R&D department’s clear and determined commitment to studying new varieties arriving on the market, especially those resistant to viruses and diseases, which is the current major
challenge in seed innovation.

The R&D department is making a significant effort to study the problems affecting cucurbits such as cucumbers, zucchinis, melons, and watermelons. This is due to the proliferation of new viruses and the persistence of existing
ones, which continue to have detrimental effects on crops.

It has been observed that global warming is causing an increase in pests such as aphids and whiteflies, which are virus vectors, leading to severe production losses. Therefore, investing in the study of these viruses, understanding them as deeply as possible, and developing new resistant varieties is essential. This is seen as one of the most viable solutions, without neglecting preventive measures to prevent the development of these insect vectors.

In this context, “attending forums where conclusions about the evolution of viruses and crop diseases are presented, and new varieties are proposed to find solid and effective solutions, is a key strategy of the R&D department at
Grupo Agroponiente. We can confidently say that this event organized by Rijk Zwaan clearly met our expectations and offered solutions that are undoubtedly interesting.”
