Agroponiente Begins Commercialization of Its First Watermelons and Melons

The company is seeing significant growth in projected volumes for this 2025 season compared to last year’s, both in melons and especially in watermelons.

Grupo Agroponiente has officially launched the commercialization of its first watermelons and melons for the 2025 Spring Campaign. The initial batches have already reached the company’s logistics facilities and are now being distributed according to the unique needs of each client, both in Spain and throughout Europe.

Since early April, the spring campaign has revitalized the 25 operating centers of the company, adding to the management, logistics, and marketing activity of the rest of the year. A substantial increase in production volume is expected, especially for watermelons and melons.

In terms of figures, Agroponiente plans to market around 60 million kilos of watermelon and 10 million kilos of melon in the coming months. This is in addition to growth expectations in other products like eggplant and zucchini.

As was anticipated before the campaign began, watermelon cultivation has expanded from 2,900 to over 3,200 hectares, while melon production has grown from 1,100 to 1,300 hectares.

As always, the cultivation, harvesting, and marketing processes are carried out under strict quality and precision standards. This includes careful selection of varieties, close technical collaboration between growers and Agroponiente’s agronomists, and meticulous harvest timing to ensure optimal ripeness and flavor — the hallmark of our fruit.

While March rains did affect some of the development stages, the company has successfully managed weather-related challenges by implementing robust monitoring and control measures to maintain its commitments to the market.

Agroponiente’s watermelons are now reaching markets under prestigious brands like Fashion — of which Agroponiente is the main marketer — and Fruish, which includes black watermelon (seeded and seedless), white seedless, Crimson, and Mini. Melons are commercialized under the Bombón brand, including Yellow, Piel de Sapo, Cantaloupe, and Galia varieties.

Regarding market destinations, most of the watermelon goes to international markets such as Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway, in addition to Spain. For melons, the Spanish market plays a more prominent role, though exports also reach Germany, Sweden, the UK, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
